A Whiskey Sour is a combination of sweet and sour. This 19th-century classic is simple to make, so toss out the pre-made sour mix!
What’s in a Whiskey Sour?
Whiskey, lemon juice, and agave are used in this recipe.
Whiskey: This cocktail can be made with either whiskey or bourbon. Bourbon is a type of whiskey, but unlike other whiskeys, it is distilled with at least 51 percent corn. This gives it a sweeter flavor, so if you use it, reduce the citrus and sweetener to compensate.
Lemon Juice: Use freshly squeezed lemon juice. Never use store-bought lemon juice.
Agave: I will almost always recommend agave over simple syrup because it adds a depth of flavor that plain sugar does not. Furthermore, I would choose raw blue agave over light agave. However, because simple syrup is less concentrated than agave, double the amount if using it.
