Snickerdoodles Cinnamon Cookie Recipe

Snickerdoodles are a simple, classic cookie that you probably already have the ingredients for. 

Basic Ingredients

Butter, eggs, flour, sugar, cinnamon, salt, and leavening are all you need to make these tasty treats. Traditionally, these are made with baking soda and cream of tartar. The cream of tartar activates the baking soda. In this recipe, I replace those two ingredients with just baking powder, which doesn’t need to be activated.

Snickerdoodles Cinnamon Cookies

Snickerdoodles are a simple, classic cookie made with staples from your pantry: butter, eggs, flour, sugar, salt, cinnamon, and baking powder.
Servings 2.5 dozen

Ingredients
  

  • 1/2 cup butter (1 stick)
  • 3/4 cup sugar
  • 1 large egg
  • 1 teaspoon cinnamon
  • 1/2 teaspoon salt
  • 1 teaspoon baking powder
  • 1 1/2 cup flour

Cinnamon Sugar Topping

  • 2 tablespoons sugar
  • 2 teaspoons cinnamon

Instructions
 

  • Preheat the oven to 375
  • Cream the butter with a mixer or by hand. Add your sugar and mix for an additional minute.
  • Add your egg, cinnamon, baking powder and salt and mix for an additional minute.
  • With the mixer on low, add the flour in 3 portions and mix only until well incorporated. Do not over mix.
  • Make balls (using a .5 ounce scoop or a tablespoon and roll the dough in your hands to form a ball)
  • Mix together the sugar and cinnamon for the topping. Roll the balls in the cinnamon sugar and then set them on a parchment lined baking sheet leaving room for them to spread out. (you should be able to fit a dozen on a 13 x 18 sheet pan).
  • Bake for 10 minutes
  • Remove them from the pan and cool them on a rack.
